I don't know if I would say it changed my life, but the book that always makes me think back on it is Kamikaze Diaries: Reflections of Japanese Student Soldiers. Reading the reflections of such young people who knew that what awaited them was death is surreal, especially since they were all the brightest of the bright at the time in Japan, so the way they expressed themselves in their diaries was nothing short of poetic.
